Gita Press in Gorakhpur is one of the world's largest publishers of Hindu religious texts, having printed over 500 million books since 1923. Their annual Kalyan Panchang is among the most widely distributed Hindi-language panchangams in North India. Following the Surya Siddhanta tradition in the North Indian Vikram Samvat calendar system (months ending on Purnima â Purnimanta system), the Gita Press panchang is the religious calendar standard for millions of families in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and beyond. Its authority comes from Gita Press's reputation as an uncompromisingly traditional publisher of dharmic literature.

â ī¸ Today, nakshatra end time differs: Gita Press / Kalyan Panchang shows 1:28 AM, HinduPlace (Swiss Ephemeris) shows 2:01 AM. This is normal for Surya Siddhanta â see comparison below.
Both systems calculate the same panchang elements (tithi, nakshatra, etc.)
using the same traditional rules. The difference is only in how each system
determines the precise positions of the Sun and Moon.

Why do differences occur?
Gita Press / Kalyan Panchang uses Surya Siddhanta which Surya Siddhanta is the most ancient Indian astronomical text (c. 400 CE). It defines planetary motion through mathematical formulas called 'vakyas' â sacred sentences encoding astronomical constants. ...
HinduPlace uses Swiss Ephemeris DE441 (error margin: Less than 1 second for tithi/nakshatra end times).
For most days the values are identical. On days when tithi or nakshatra changes
near sunrise/sunset, the transition time may differ by 15-60 minutes for nakshatra/tithi end times. Up to 4 hours in rare cases..
